Arriving by air and driving in from Portland (PDX)
The main Oregon Airport is Portland International Airport (PDX). This is located 3.5 hours away from The Sunriver Oasis. From PDX you can take the “Bend Breeze” shuttle (800) 847-0157, (see below for more info). Or you can drive to us via Salem, OR (I-5) or over My. Hood (Hwy 26). Each way takes you through beautiful forests, and through mountain passes
Mt. Hood Drive: If you are renting a car, the most direct and beautiful drive is I-84 to Gresham, Or. where you connect to Highway 26. This highway takes you through Sandy, Oregon. over Mt. Hood and to Madras, Oregon. Just south of Madras you take Highway 97 south through Redmond, to Bend, and on to Sunriver, getting off 97 on the Cottonwood Exit into Sunriver.
Salem / Santiam Pass Drive: Another driving route is south on I-5 from Portland through Salem. South of Salem take Highway 22 East exit off from I-5. Head through the Detroit Lakes area, over the Santiam Pass through Sisters into Bend. In Bend connect with Hwy 97, and head south to the Cottonwood exit for Sunriver.
Arriving by air to Redmond
The closest airport to The Sunriver Oasis is the Redmond, Oregon Airport (RDM). This is a 40 minute drive. Often with international flights you are allowed to travel to smaller airports without too much added cost. Check the additional airfare cost to Redmond from PDX (or Seattle). Sometimes it's cheaper to take a quick flight then rent a car and drive - unless you want invigorating scenery. If you decide to fly in and out of Redmond, the Grissen's will gladly pick you up and bring you back.
Driving in from the South
From California going north on I-5, you can get off on Highway 97 which is the scenic route taking you through Klamath Falls, directly to Sunriver.
Another option is to travel further north on I-5 to Medford and then take Highway 62 over the Cascade range past the turnoff to Crater Lake, a beautiful, scenic side-trip. Route 62, or 138, north of Crater Lake, both connect with 97 and you are on your way to Sunriver.
If you prefer to stay on I-5 until further north, you can take Highway 126 out of Eugene and around the mountains on 126 to Sisters, or in the summer over the scenic route 242 to Sisters. In Sisters take Highway 20 to Bend and then connect to 97 south to Sunriver.
Taking the Sunriver Shuttle
The "Breeze Portland/Sunriver Shuttle" serves Central Oregon daily. You can connect with the shuttle from either Portland International Airport, or Portland Union Station, the central Bus and Train station. Your destination in Central Oregon is the Sugarloaf Motel on Business 97. We'll pick you up from there and bring you to Sunriver. For schedule and current costs visit: www.cobreeze.com, or call: (800)847-0157
NOTE: If you are driving during winter months, chains are required to be in your vehicle over the passes due to large amounts of snow you periodically encounter. |
