About Life Impact Ministries

What is a ‘Life Impact Oasis’?

Life Impact offers hosted places of rest, retreat, and renewal (called an Oasis) for International Workers and Christian leaders. Our guests have the option of utilizing coaching services when they visit an Oasis.
Each Oasis is hosted by a qualified couple or single and takes on the “flavor” of that Host’s gifts, calling, and experiences. Check out the specific Oasis that may interest you to determine if that location and host will be able to meet your needs. A few of our Oases are not designed for children. Please feel free to ask about specific accommodations that you may require.
Our locations are designed for rest and personal retreat. Most of our hosts are qualified in coaching and can help you process crucial issues you are facing. Sometimes gaining a different perspective on an issue allows one to move forward in a new way with more hope and vigor. (See coaching under ‘Services’)
In addition to coaching, our hosts have various skills and experiences they can utilize to help you move forward in your life. These additional areas of help are found on this website under the specific Oasis for that host. They may include, but are not limited to, debriefing and cultural stress analysis.

Who do we serve?

Our Oases are open to Humanitarian Aid workers, Missionaries, Pastors, and other Christian leaders who need a personal retreat to gain physical, spiritual, and emotional strength while processing unresolved or crucial issues.
Although some of our staff are trained counselors, Life Impact is not a “counseling” organization. We provide coaching, spiritual direction, pastoral care, Biblical-pastoral guidance, mentoring, and encouragement. If we discern that professional counseling would benefit you, we will recommend that course of action.

Doctrinal Statement:
We believe ….
That the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are inspired by God and inerrant in the original writings, and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and life.
In one God, the Creator, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
That Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary and was and remains true God and true man.
That God created Adam and Eve in the divine image; that they sinned, and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God; and that, as a result of Adam’s sin, all human beings are now born with a sinful nature and stand guilty before God.
That the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice; and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.
In the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into Heaven, and in His present life there for us, as High Priest and Advocate.
In the blessed hope of the personal and imminent return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
That all by faith who receive the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God. This authentic faith is verified by a person’s obedience to Christ which leads to good works.
That the Holy Spirit indwells and gives spiritual life and gifts to all believers, enables them to understand Biblical truth, empowers them for godly living and equips them for service and witness.
That God created man both male and female and instituted marriage between a man and a woman to reflect His own relationship between Christ and His Church and that God gave marriage to male and female for procreation.
In the bodily resurrection of the just and unjust, the eternal blessedness of all who received grace, and the just punishment of all who reject grace.
Life Impact, Inc. was incorporated in the State of Oregon as a Religious Corporation in April 2003. In May 2003, it received from the IRS their 501(c)(3) status as a non-profit organization. Life Impact was started by David and Sheri Grissen, long-term missionaries with The Navigators, in order to provide Missionary Care services to international workers in a hosted facility called an “Oasis”.
During their 30 years of mission work leading teams of colleagues, and working through their own personal issues, they became convinced that they wanted to pass on their lessons – good, bad, and ugly – to younger missionaries. For the first three years Life Impact developed strongly in Sunriver, OR as the only Oasis. Then in 2006 the Life Impact Board asked the Grissens to develop a strategy for expansion of Oases. Once approved, this plan was sent to intercessors, and within two months Jim and Carol Wold were connected with Life Impact to start the second Oasis in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
With the Wold’s experience in ministry to Pastors, Life Impact expanded its ministry focus toward Pastor Care as well. Now both Missionaries and Pastors are served in our various Oases. Six months after the Wolds joined the team, Amber Stark was led to Life Impact to open the Slovakia Oasis – our first International effort. Life Impact is now rapidly growing both in the US and internationally with over 12 oases and more to come! Each host comes with their unique stories of how the Lord led them to Life Impact, and stories of how He’s providing the places of rest for pastors and missionaries in 10 countries around the world.
Through our finance and administration teams our staff have helped firm up the core of Life Impact’s donor relations and finances. Concurrently, with this development, the founders Dave and Sheri Grissen have successfully grown and launched Life Impact Ministries! They are now officially retired yet still are available for guidance and input. In 2015, David and Theresa Knauss took the reins of leadership and are moving us into the next phase of Life Impact’s development.
There are several excellent Missionary Care organizations that send caregivers to the fields to help missionaries in their locations – a vital ministry. Life Impact has been raised up as a caregiving team to provide places for Missionaries and Pastors to come to for rest, retreat, and processing of the more normal issues they face.
Life Impact’s plans for the future include continued expansion of Oases, both in the USA and Internationally. Every Oasis that is established means more missionaries and pastors who are helped in this day of tremendous pressures and upheaval for ministry leaders around the world. Safe havens for them to retreat to globally will ensure that there is less attrition and more effectiveness in impacting the nations.

And He said, "My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest."
- Exodus 33:14

What people are saying about Life Impact

Doug Hazen: Northwest Regional Missions Director, WorldVenture…

“Life Impact has made a significant difference in the lives of WorldVenture missionaries as a place of rest, refreshment and nurturing. Servant leadership and quality facilities make Life Impact and their Oasis ministry my top recommendation for weary workers who simply need to catch their breath or fully process the challenges of cross-cultural work.”

Paul Stanley: Executive Vice President, The Navigators…

“We as Navigators, appreciate our partnership with Life Impact and the Oasis. Dave and Sheri, Oasis ministers, have served with our Mission for 32 years. Having pioneered ministries and led missionaries in three different parts of the world (USA, Eastern Europe & Russia, and Central Asia) they are thoroughly equipped to develop others to do the same. They have developed holistic cross-cultural ministries centered on Christ and His Word which fit the host culture and generated highly committed followers of Jesus who are now impacting others. . . Those who gain from The Oasis ministry will be blessed and built up for their overseas service. . . I have personally benefited from years of colaborship with Dave and Sheri…”

Greg Burch: Multnomah University Prof. Missions Dept, Formerly with LAM, Director, Ninos de la Luz, Venezuala. Prof of Missionas, ESEPA, Costa Rica…

“…As someone who has spent many days and weeks with Dave and Sheri in the past, I look forward to visiting the Oasis care center. Not only do I recommend the location where they are, but I highly recommend them as a couple. With over 30 years in mission’s work, Dave and Sheri are more than qualified to provide the kind of environment necessary for a missionary care center. On a personal level they have ministered to my wife and I on numerous occasions and have provided a solid example of what it means to serve Christ in ministry as a family…”

Russ Guppy: Tacoma Pierce County Policy Chaplaincy…

“…Besides being eminently qualified as veteran missionaries in multiple cultures, Dave and Sheri raised a wonderful family of five children (now adults) on their various fields. In our thirty-plus years of ministry, we’ve known no other personal friends that have accomplished more true Kingdom work than Dave and Sheri. And being among them in their home is always relaxing, fun, and encouraging! If your batteries need a little recharging, a few days with the Grissens at Sunriver will give you that boost. Know that you will be treated like special friends, loved, listened to, and served according to your needs and wishes…”

Charlie Dokmo: World Vision International…

“I have known Dave and Sheri for over two decades, and their experience and heart for serving the Kingdom is unparalleled. I heartily recommend “Life Impact” as a ministry that will help you become more effective and reflective in your active ministry.”

Jim Roths: Former Executive Director, People International, USA…

“What a blessing to those called to serve! And what a blessing to those who are sending! As a mission sending organization in the USA, I worked with missionaries going to the field and coming back on home leave. Having a resource like Life Impact and Dave & Sheri to partner with our mission and with the sending church was a valuable resource. They provided us with additional care, equipping and mentoring through the Oasis is a valuable resource to us.”
“I had the pleasure to serve with the Grissens in Central Asia as they reached out to the missionary and local community to support and encourage those in times of crisis. Having walked the road of a missionary themselves, they understand from personal experience the joys and struggles, the triumphs and tragedies that are part of the missionary experience. They also understand and are equipped to deal with the spiritual dimension of this work, recognizing that it is Satan who seeks to destroy and discourage. In addition to their years of service, their tender hearts, practical and godly counsel and willingness to take the time to listen, make them the perfect hosts to refresh, encourage, and equip those called to Christian Service.”

Member Care Provider traveling to Limited Access Countries…

“Experience is not the best teacher – experience with reflection is the best teacher. If you want to talk about your dreams, plans and strategy, David is your man. If you want to open up your heart and share your fears, your pains, and your greatest delights, Sheri is a great listener. Dave and Sheri are great people to be with when you need to reflect, reassess, refresh or recover. They are the right couple to walk with you for a productive retreat.”

Director for work in Limited Access and Sensitive Countries, (name withheld by request)…

“I believe God has raised up Life Impact at a needy and important time in the work of His Kingdom. I am also convinced that David and Sheri are the right people to lead this ministry. I have gotten to know them in various contexts, and shared in the ministry with them. They are gifted and called to this key role, and have the experience required to help international workers . . . they are well aware of the pressures, stresses and trials which Christian workers experience overseas and at home. In our day, a center like the Oasis, is vital for the care and recuperation of missionaries. . . I thank God for raising up this vital ministry and heartily commend it to others.”
